The Shih Tzu is a trusting, loyal and playful companion. Since their sole purpose is that of a companion dog, temperament is the most important attribute of the breed. They are sturdy and surprisingly heavy for their size. Shih Tzu have long flowing coats and are considered relatively hypoallergenic and non-shedding.

THINGS TO CHEW ON

The majority of purebred dogs entering rescue programs, shelters, and humane societies are not the puppies produced by responsible breeders. They are the product of backyard breeders and puppy mills.

Responsible breeders do not EVER sell their puppies to pet stores.

Responsible Breeders

The Canadian Kennel Club Code of Practice for its members states: "It shall be the aim of every breeder to breed dogs that are healthy and sound in both mind and body, to ensure that dogs are true to their heritage and that they meet the requirements of the CKC breed standards."

Most breed clubs have similar statements in regards to breeding  practices.
